Quick Guide For Dentists and Surgeons

4. What Should You Expect For Tooth Extraction Surgery?

If your dentist says you need an oral surgeon, it's because a simple extraction won't work. For just one tooth, they'll use local anesthesia to numb the area. But if you're getting multiple teeth out, you'll probably be put to sleep with general anesthesia. The surgeon will use special tools to remove the tooth from your jawbone and gums. This leaves a little hole, which they'll pack with gauze to stop the bleeding. Stitches will either dissolve on their own or be taken out when you're healed up.
